So, I Was a Jury Member at a Romanian Car Show…
What do you know about Romanian car culture?
I’ll be honest, I didn’t know much. So I knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity when I was invited to join the jury for the 2025 edition of Retro Cars Romania.
It would be my first time in the country, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned from traveling for car culture: it’s often in the places you least expect that you are most surprised.
Not your average concours
We touched down in Bucharest and made our way to the city of Ploiești, getting ready for a weekend full of cars.
This was a gathering that felt more like a passion project brought to life than a traditional car show. The event brought together collectors, drivers, and enthusiasts from all over Romania (and beyond), united by a genuine love for vintage machines.
What makes this event so special is the atmosphere. It’s about community, stories, and cars that are meant to be driven. There were immaculate Morgans, beautifully restored Mercedes, and American classics, and they all stood proudly alongside polished Dacias. The variety was incredible.
There’s something so real and unfiltered about Retro Cars Romania. Whether you’re into design, restoration, or just the car culture vibes, it ticks all the boxes.
This one is definitely going on my list to revisit.
Judging for the first time
Being on the jury was a whole new experience for me. As we walked the rows of cars, clipboard in hand, I realized this wasn’t just about scoring condition or rarity. It was about history. Character. The soul of a car and its journey, and the people behind it.
The soul of a place, through its cars
Retro Cars Romania isn’t just a car event.
It’s proof that elegance, enthusiasm, and emotion aren’t reserved for the big-name shows. Sometimes, they live in the quieter corners, waiting for someone to notice.
I went in expecting to admire a few cars. I left reminded why I fell in love with car culture and community in the first place.
And I can’t wait to come back.
